Is this elden ring? What’s on the other side of that fog gate?
A lowly tarnished, playing as a lord?
The last hotel I was had a sweet feature of a black out pull down shade, the on the sides of the window frame were guide rails that the black out shade fit in to keep all the light out. I greatly appreciated that, and I’ve been in a lot of other hotels like yours (though not as severe!) so I feel for you.
Having suffered a week of jet lag, I can tell you that proper black out shades are vital.
So is that one of those fancy converted efficiency suites/watch a prostitute shower hotels?
Because your window is inset from the hallway door, roughly where the bathroom for most hotels ends up being. Always possible you have a really nice corner unit, but that wall looks a bit narrow for the end of a hallway and an exterior wall.
Suppose there could be a big neon light on the wall, but that also seems too recessed from the exterior that it would limit visibility of the sign.
It’s one of those all inclusive resorts in Turkey. You are correct that it’s the bathroom. I’m not sure why there’s a window looking into it. The blind is outside so if someone went into the bathroom, I could pull up the blind. It’s very strange.
Always travel with eye mask and multiple sets of ear plugs $20 well spent.
Genuine question: Have you found enough uses to justify that?
I am genuinely asking since I am always trying to optimize my travel bag. I keep a set of earplugs in a plastic case in my bag but I have never found a need for multiple. And, mostly, I use those for if I decide to go to a concert or a show (my ass is too old for Da Club) which is a one per trip, at most.
Eye mask? Never found a need for that but also know I can pick it up at a 7-11 in any city where it would be needed. And the one time I had a giant neon sign outside my window? The hotel room had blackout curtains and I just rolled to face the wall. Was really no different than waking up in the middle of the night and having the bathroom light on with the door cracked.
Earplugs are so tiny that carrying two pairs is negligibley different from one. I have used multiple pairs simply because I’ve misplaced one during the night (fallen out my ear and rolled off the bed) and I’d rather have a spare than have to turn a light on and search.
As to the eye mask, it depends how much you care about light. I find that many hotels have too much early morning light for me, so I use it more often than not. But even if it was only 10% of hotels, carrying a flat, compressable 200g item would still be worth it. Particularly because you often can’t tell until the dawn whether the light will be an issue, so having it available makes more sense than having to pick one up at a 7-11. But if you only use it 1 in 100 trips, or you’re OK with disrupted sleep, then it’s a different evaluation.
I carry a pair of earplugs because mine block 10dB, much less than most. It’s the most general use sound reduction and is rare, so I find it worth carrying. Before that I didn’t, because:
Most hotels have earplugs and eye masks that they’ll provide for free. So I only bring my own eye mask for long flights. If you’re only concerned about sleep quality in bed, that’s not a bad option
How bright was it in real life, is that long exposure or was it really annoying?
Also you can post this to !thenightfeeling@lemmy.world
Ooh new community. Don’t mind if I do…
Nope, no long exposure. It’s actually a tad darker than it is in the picture.
I’ll definitely post this there too!
Are you on Jupiter?
Did you really have to sleep with that fluorecent light over you?
I didn’t have to but I wanted to. I didn’t want to sleep in complete darkness and thought the light was soft enough.
I think you need to put a cardboard cutout of someone on the other side of that blind for the next overnight guest to unwittingly discover.
What is that?
It’s the light in the bathroom coming through a blind. I’m not sure why there’s a window with a blind looking into the bathroom but I’m glad I’m the only one in this room.
Looks cool though, at least on the picture
Put a blanket or that spare mattress over it as best you can, wtf bro.
Reminds me of the sniper levels of RESCUE: The Embassy Mission on the NES.
I hate it when the hotel be like that
Kenny Rodger’s?
Just buy a rat hat and things will sort it self out.
