  • When a moral panic happens, a lot of things get blown out of proportion. A good example was the panic relating to D&D and satanism. There was a huge panic sometime in the 50s or 60s about the police dealing with young thugs with concealed switch blades, which could be hidden, and then deployed one handed so fast a cop couldn’t draw his weapon fast enough. So this panic got a lot of laws drawn up to ban any switch blade.

Since then, the there are knives that skirt the law by not having a spring which force the blade open, instead a tension bar. There are still types are illegal to carry if a Cop would find out you have it, like “Out the front” switch knives.

The stupid part is, there are plenty of “one hand deployable” knives on the market that are 100% legal. But the laws never get revisited. In my state it’s illegal to have a out the front switch blade, yet a bunch of high end OTF knives are for sale at a sporting store. They just post a sign that says “Know your local laws”, which some how makes it okay to sell.

If anyone has more to add, or corrects, let me know.

  • The Thing is my favorite horror movie. With that being said, they probably didn’t have a grand plan for the dog turning to look back. They probably didn’t even direct the dog to do that, because it’s a dog, it was probably looking back at it’s trainer in that scene.

The motive for the The Thing is always survive, and in that situation it was being hunted, and getting away from that threat was first and foremost it’s goal. After it was safe, it wanted to leave the arctic, to most likely infect and convert more life forms. It’s unknown if The Thing is a space faring race on it’s own, or just a parasitic hitch hiker who consumes life forms and adds their understanding it it’s own. If it’s just a consumer of life, then it’s goal would be to get out of arctic to population centers and get to work taking over and mimicking more organisms. If it’s intelligent and isn’t just a consume, it’d want to get off of earth to continue doing what ever Thing things it would normally do. I definitely lean toward it being a consumer, having tried to take over the original owners of the ship it crashed onto earth in.

  • It sure would be nice to be able to vote for candidates based on their ideas and positions, but that isn’t the world we live in any more. Instead it’ll probably be Biden or Trump, and that isn’t any decision at all. Trump isn’t fit to be president, he’s a narcissistic liar, and only cares about himself. I very much don’t support what Israel did in response, so many innocent people have died and it’s absolutely awful. But do you think Trump would have been pro Palestine? Not supported Israel?

Polls are notoriously inaccurate, and anyone banging the drum of “POLLS SHOW BIDEN IS GOING TO LOSE” is trying to push that idea in the hopes less people get out to vote for that candidate. The type of wording Trump has been using is insanely inflammatory and will cost lives, this man has no further business in any elected office. Below is something Trump said on Veteran’s Day:

“In honor of our great veterans on Veteran’s Day, we pledge to you that we will root out the communists, Marxists, fascists, and radical left thugs that live like vermin within the confines of our country. Lie, steal, and cheat on elections, and will do anything possible, whether legally or illegally, to destroy America, and the American dream,” he wrote.

“The threat from outside forces is far less sinister, dangerous, and grave, than the threat from within. Despite the hatred and anger of the radical left lunatics who want to destroy our country, we will make America great again!”

  • Yeah, that’s not great. It also puts all responsibility of content on the user, so if you post something offensive, they’re not going to be the ones blamed. But if you post some art that they can make money off of, they definitely want that. We live in a gross world.

  • You know how some shows start strong, but then loose their magic a few seasons in? Or shows like Game of Thrones that shit the bed so hard with their ending, but it retroactively removes the enjoyment from prior seasons? Silicon Valley is part of a short list of shows that just were great start to finish. Interesting, engaging, well written, and a solid ending. My list is short:

The Good Place Breaking Bad Silicon Valley

  • The last hotel I was had a sweet feature of a black out pull down shade, the on the sides of the window frame were guide rails that the black out shade fit in to keep all the light out. I greatly appreciated that, and I’ve been in a lot of other hotels like yours (though not as severe!) so I feel for you.
