Sounds about right. I live in fire country, and a lot of us were subscribed to the local emergency alert system.
Then people started ignoring it when wildfire alerts were not being sent out on the system. That said, local authorities love to use the system to tell people about parade road closures and traffic.
In the case of Hawaii, they can just be outright false!
My understanding of what happened with the Maui fires is that they didn’t have a fire alert system, just a tsunami alert system, and they didn’t activate it because they didn’t want to cause people to flee inland towards the fire.
Is that not correct?
I believe they were talking about the nuclear strike alert incident.
I totally forgot about that.
