And for anything like that to happen, Israel needs to abandon its colonialist ambitions, because there can be no peace as long as settlements are being built. Once that happens, the peace talks you’re talking about can happen. This is not conjecture; we’ve seen this in action before multiple times.

I’m not excusing their behaviour, I am saying the motivation behind their behaviour, which is the purpouse of the article being discussed. Why are Israelis indifferent about what’s happening in Gaza? Because this situation isn’t just “israel bad”. Yes , Israel bad, but also, other people bad too.
