Your situation is your own, but I was able to lease a phev for less than what I was paying for gas + maintenance on a car I had paid off. It may not be exactly what you want, but lease deals still come around occasionally.

I’m lucky enough to have multiple routes to my office.
During the times that taking the back roads is dramatically slower, I’ll go on the interstate. Holy hell my stress and anger levels rocket when doing that.
Ah interesting. I too have instituted a flex time Friday.
So far my company hasn’t seemed to notice

Things have changed considerably since you were 19.
I’m younger than you but not by a lot. When I was 19 I moved in to a 1 bedroom apartment for (inflation adjusted) $700/month. That exact same apartment now rents for $1445/month.
A couple of years later I bought 1 acre of land and put an 1800 sq foot home on it for (inflation adjusted) $275k. That exact same house was sold in 2021 for $433k.
I’m choosing housing here because it’s easy, but I could just as easily pick college, general cost of living, etc…
My point being that you (and I) were set up a lot better to save for the future than the 19 year olds of today.
[Edit] guess I went on a bit of a sidetrack. I’m not sure you were even talking about today’s 19 year olds…
Completely agree. I had experiences in Alyx that were unique to any other game I’ve ever played. Things that are just not possible outside of VR.
Yeah this post hit me different than was probably the intent. I’ve been expecting to get laid off for the past 6 months ago, initially it was fear, eventually it was desire. Didn’t happen though and I’ve since found a new job, but I would have welcomed it if it did.
