If this is political, so is everything else-- people politicize everything lately, much to the detriment of the kids. In this case, all I see are some lovely books going back on the shelves, hopefully accompanied by more to come. Thanks for sharing!

It actually has more to do with training and education. In developed nations, people get more education and the result is a larger void in the low skill labor force who are employed by them. Ironically, more education results in lower wages for white collar work and higher wages for blue collar work, haha. Unfortunately we rarely talk about education, economics and immigration in the same breath, so it’s rarely addressed in politics.
Automation also adds a wrinkle, as low skill labor has been automated with technology. It’s credited as one of the major contributions to the wage gap, as efficiency is a boon to the owning class, not the working class. But I digress…
Historically, US actually was quite welcoming of immigration, including from Mexico. It tends to ebb and flow. I was taught by an economist that typically you open the flood gates when you want the labor, while restricting it when you don’t. To him, labor works just like goods in supply/demand curves. Flooding a market can drive down value of labor, etc., which can be bad for local workers. Obviously it’s a little more complex, but that’s the jist.
The trouble is, with globalization, one must wonder if that S/D curve is still valid. I imagine it is in some sectors, but in others, those jobs have been outsourced. If this is a bigger strain on demand, then it’s better to keep immigration on lock. That would at least help explain why it’s so hostile currently, but I’m just thinking out loud. I don’t necessarily agree with the economist approach.
I mean at this point that’s my first thought when I think organized religion, so yeah, not shocking. Expected, even.
I mean, if it was any other ally surrounded by countries that hate them, I’d understand this policy. If Israel wasn’t lead by a dickhead and their regime, I’d understand this policy. They literally only exist as a country with our support.
But as is stands now, it’s a carrot we should use to leverage peace and, in an ideal world, push for a better coexistence with people they’ve historically shit on. Giving it away for ‘free’ makes little sense aside from fear of losing their support and by extension, the election.
If we didn’t have foreign money, or PACs in general, would this be different? I would imagine it would be, if we could just fix that shitty system.
Ah no, there’s just two roads people take to get to class because it’s in a weird position. The cyber truck was on one of those paths.
Reminds me, it’s my first day back teaching classes and the usual cyber truck I see on the commute is gone. Students and I used to make fun of it before class, I wonder what happened to it…
Prehistoric Minecraft Automatic Mob Farm.
I wonder if some of that nuance is medical debt. If you divorce before the bills come in, can you get away with only the ill person getting the debt? If it’s terminal, do you have a way to deny debt collectors by saying you’re divorced?
Of course, the gender angle still suggests otherwise, but I imagine that’s mostly a breadwinner/power dynamic that hopefully is changing with more women in the workforce.
I mean, I like the IP but it was clear from the get go it was going to be a typical video game movie. The IP was at it’s best with BL2, though. I don’t think anyone expected it to be any good.
I also have to say I’ve had only good experiences with my current insurance provider (Amica) but I also pay a little more. My mom got an at fault accident in my car she borrowed when her car was in the shop and it was handled without complaint nor did they raise my rates.
But you’re still right about a lot of others. I’m almost certain GEICO or Progressive would have raised mine. I wish it was regulated such that my experience is the mandatory norm.
My dad does this, and I made a few bucks thanks to WordPress. Really, more thanks to Elementor because you can make a pretty snazzy website for cheap and the layman has no it took 2 hours to put together with templates. Lol
Cost saving tip! Use $20 bills and cut your holiday expenses in half!
I like “or else” meant no promotions, as if that ever meant anything in tech. If you want more money you jump to another company. This just gives them even more incentive to do that.
Fun fact, a big reason why innovation happened a lot in tech is because of this-- when a company fails to retain someone, they take their wealth of knowledge and trade secrets with them. It actually hurts companies more than just losing a person since it also gives the competition a leg up!
I can’t speak for you, but I experience similar and I think there’s a few reasons. To me, movies are tough mostly because there so many options, I spend too much time just browsing.
Games, I think it’s either because starting a new game is a like intimidating, or because I feel I need at least a chunk of time and by the time I do it, it’s too late. And again, options.
Plus scrolling is just kind of fun sometimes. Iunno. Humans need other humans. P
Either way, I’m on Lemmy right now because I’ve got a 2 year old koalaing my left arm, though. Be glad you at least have the choice to scroll! Best of luck, hope you get a game inspiration soon.
Ok, you can put the toothpaste a little back in. Still lacks some of the novelty but I’ll give it a shot when it’s on sale. Thanks!
I wonder if it’ll get packed with the VR friendly Myst. I have ached to try it, although I remember all the puzzle solutions so that’s toothpaste you can’t put back in the tube. Riven is new to me though!
I heard Frozen II did really well, so I’m not surprised. It can be done well, but will it? We’ll have to see.
To be fair, 30% cut probably wouldn’t be sustainable. They were hemeraging money last I checked thanks to exclusives and “free” games.
