Yeah, about a year ago when all the “wow, lemmy really feels like an edgy early internet discussion forum” threads were popping up, I think people forgot that those early forums were just eternal flame wars between communists and anarchists.
I feel like that’s because we actually get to see them side by side. But if you were friends with one and saw the other as a stranger out in public, say the grocery store, it might warrant a “holy shit, I just saw someone who looks exactly like you,” text accompanied by an awkwardly zoomed in picture of them in the frozen foods aisle.
Actions speak louder than words. Right now the words are many and inconsequential, and the actions are damning.
The Ford F-150 is a work truck. Doesn’t stop millions of people from using them as a commuter vehicle, even if they’re not great at it.
Hell, I used my impact driver as a hammer the other day, and I used a screwdriver as a pry bar.
Just because it’s not the primary role for a object doesn’t mean it can’t perform the role. The sale of arms to Israel is irresponsible at best and complicit at worst.
I find that when you know how to use Github, Github is pretty easy and close to perfect for what it is, a code repository.
I think that most people who stumble across a Github link through a Google search, probably like in the original post, want to treat it like an app store. The read.me is the description, so they can tell it kind of does what they need, but they’re missing a big, green download and install button.
The problem with github isn’t really a problem. It’s just accessible enough to borderline tech people who want a one click solution to a problem. They can find it, but using it requires more skill than they have. It’s a code repository, not an app store. The most useful things I find on github aren’t from some massive app developer, they’re from some guy who happened to have the same problem as me. Rather than screaming at that guy for an executable, level up. Learn something.
It does make a waffle sandwich. They aren’t bad.
But, it takes about 10 minutes to cook, then 5 minutes to get hot enough to make another. So if you’re just making it for yourself, it’s fine. But if you’re wanting to make them for like more than 2 people, it’s a problem.
I’d be like entering Fast 5 into evidence.
See your honor? The good guys were the robbers! They also love America and occasionally fuck members of their family.
I think for someone as advanced in age and tired as Biden is, he needs a truly inspiring VP candidate. He stepped up when we needed him and beat Trump, but Biden also needed to be a one term president as a stopgap for the next generation, but like every other Democrat politician, he’s hanging on too long, and we’ll pay the price.
I get they tried this with Kamala Harris, to some extent, but she has squandered the opportunity. I’d consider myself fairly well informed, above average for sure, and I’d struggle to name 5 things she’s done in the last 3 years.
Uh, last I checked, Britannia rules the waves, not the Falklands. Checkmate, Margaret.
Easy. School isn’t for school. It’s a daycare with its hours offset from the working day, skewing early so parents can get their kids there before work. Kids spend 2 hours on a bus and 7 hours in a classroom every day because both of their parents have to work.
It’s not homeschooling, it’s unschooling.
My parents were both teachers at private or Christian schools while I grew up, and every year, there’d always be a new couple of kids who’s parents couldn’t quite hack it anymore, so they’d send them to school. But couldn’t bear to send their kids to those secular, godless, evolution teaching, sex driven, minority filled public schools, so they’d send them to my school instead.
Those kids were always some of the dumbest, most ignorant people on the planet. Some figure it out, but most don’t. They just double down. They were usually barely literate, couldn’t do math, and had no social skills. It’s how you end up with a 19 year old freshman who can’t read Dr. Seuss.
I know teachers aren’t paid much, but if you have the audacity to say that you can do a better job than 4 or 5 professionals at teaching your kid every subject, you should have to take a test to be certified, and your kid needs testing too. Some states require it, most don’t, and it shows.
But even that was kind of cheating. I think May had the Mercedes 300D, which is probably the most reliable car ever made, and Hammond had an Opel that had already survived 50 years there. The only one who really struggled was Clarkson in the Lancia, which makes sense.
It’s important to note that the same is essentially true for theater goers. As a viewer, I am investing my time and money in a movie experience. With tickets being $15+, a theater date can easily cost $50. When a trip to the theater costs that much, I sure as hell don’t go every other weekend, and I definitely don’t want to see something batting 57% on Rotten Tomatoes.
So it ends up being a vicious cycle where studios only greenlight established IP or “surefire” bets and viewers only see the big hits. I don’t know anyone anymore who just casually goes to the theater because it’s so expensive, so in turn, casual movies have died. The only thing I can think of that’s weathered this are genres with dedicated fan bases, like horror.
Walking out of an unsatisfying, crap movie after dropping $50 hurts, and staying at home is the easiest way to avoid it.
Badly. The vote to pass spending removed it, and now a separate vote to add it separately will be delayed.
Putin is getting exactly what he paid for, and he’s got to be absolutely thrilled.
I disagree.
If the story is true, Tim coaches the new hires and on boards them into the environment. Tim serves as a sound board for the senior techs, since he’s privy to the larger departmental scope. He is the point of contact for the team.
The manager telling the story needs to be fired. Tim is doing his job.
The manager here only serves to add a layer between Tim and management that is ultimately unnecessary, as the story proves.
Fire the manager. Promote Tim.
Praise Cash, from whom all blessings flow.
Yeah, but that makes it sound like the reason I know longer get to spend 3 months of summer dicking around with Razor scooters and lighting pinecone on fire is because vaccines stole my childhood and made me a man.
I liked it as well. The opening is great. It subverts expectations in the same way a lot of D&D campaigns do. Missing judge will be a co-conspirator, maybe in disguise? Nope, just a bird.
