I will say I can feel the hype train with Manor Lords, which I usually am not a part of. I like that kind of game and already had furthest frontier so I picked it up.
I was pretty… shocked with how much was unfinished and how little soul and love the game felt like it had.
I figured I got duped and someone paid every youtuber on a slow week to hype it up since they missed some publisher deadline or whatever
We’re in the age of corporate corruption and they’re public – Probably would get sued by investors for not ruthlessly hamstringing all stakeholders in the space. Fuck this place.

I dunno – I didn’t downvote you! :)
I think we can have compassion for people who commit suicide because of suffering and are young, but not think it’s a good or ideal thing. I think the protest here or euthanasia because you’re old/sick is a different thing.
For everyone (for me) condoning suicide too much – I always think about it like this:
We were dead for billions of years and we will be dead for billions of years. This little sub 100 year run we all have is just a flash in the pan and even if you’re not having a good time at all and think you can’t ever have a good time, surely just sticking it out for the novelty if nothing else is better in most cases of suffering than checking out too early. We’ll all be back there soon enough.
why do we teach everyone to only pull your gun if you’re going to kill someone unless you’re a police – then just pull it any time you’re worried or confused!
They did the one thing they were trained to do – Pull first ask questions for fire extinguishers later
shoot out the fire or scare the guy so much he stops being on fire – only options
Revenge kill your own family…hmmmmmmmm
We’re in the lend and lease phase right now
Hmmm
You clearly don’t know what you’re talking about since you skipped Mississippi, land of waffle House and sadness.
I don’t think you can call My Lai ‘sanctioned’ or official even though it was done by a commissioned officer who was court martialed (but got off). Even then they gave the heli pilot that landed between US troops and a group of civilians about to get murdered a silver star – https://www.britannica.com/event/My-Lai-Massacre
Japan wwII definitely tactical and sanctioned but that one is weird because all of the military operated so independently.
I don’t know enough about your other examples. It makes sense though and I like the word you use ‘retaliation’
A good modern war planner isn’t going to waste energy on retaliation but when you get onto the ground and have a bunch of killers that don’t think of the enemy as all the way human (so you can convince them to do so much killing) retaliation would come up often. Also if you have some crazy strong man dictator, he may need retaliation to keep the image or drive his paranoia.
That is more or less “war”. You raid one of my towns, I’ll raid two of yours. Ends when one side has been beaten into submission.
Actively attacking third party civilians is not.
I don’t think I agree – This is an awesome blog post you should totally read if you’re interested in history. https://acoup.blog/2022/07/29/collections-logistics-how-did-they-do-it-part-ii-foraging/
I’d say anything post train you’re going to try to capture infrastructure to make war, so saying we’re sieging cities sounds more ancient to me.
If you read that post, you’ll see ‘foraging’ really meant robbing and brutalizing local populaces for their food since anything but the smallest sized army can’t feed itself for more than a few weeks. Not to mention once we are sieging a city and starving all the people out.
What are some modern examples of ‘letting your army run wild on the populace’? I know that happens quite a bit but I can’t think of any sanctioned ones unless we go to wwii Japan maybe? and that was more than a little wild. Seems like most of the time a platoon or w/e just goes berserker.
I think the person you’re replying to is being facetious
and empathy !== sympathy.
Well… Just know that’s how people convinced others to commit the very evils against their fellow man that you speak of – over and over for 1000s of years. Taking that position may soothe your belief in humanity but it makes you vulnerable to be co-opted to commit the very same evils against which you preach.
Right – But to make desperate people who cheer misguidedly ‘the other’ and different from us dehumanizes them which comes with all kinds of bad side effects, many of which you can see on display here.
You can do both – You can not condone violence while understanding why a group of people treated like they’re not people can fail to uphold high morals in this situation without gloating or pretending they’re made of stuff you’re not. We’re all just people.
I make this every week because you can’t buy white bread without a billion preservatives and whatnot https://www.theflavorbender.com/japanese-milk-bread-recipe-hokkaido-milk-bread/
