How does them giving free games have anything to do with their desire for a “monopolistic” market share? Couldn’t they just do the same if they wanted any market share?

They are referring to those who hold liberal market beliefs. Not liberal social beliefs. Also known as conservatives in the US.

I’m in the exact same place as you! I’ve bought all the games and I’ll buy this too, but it’ll probably be a long time before I’ll get to it.
