Bees and butterflies don’t pollinate all by themselves, FYI. Things that bite/sting also do a lot of pollination work! Flies, wasps, etc

If you remember at all. Was there any controlling for gill damage during the catch? I know some idiots who will hold them up by the gills for pictures, I wonder if that causes damage? Or just dying from shock? I wonder if I can find the study
iheartneopets@lemm.eeto science@lemmy.world•Chewing gum can shed microplastics into saliva, pilot study findsEnglish2·3 months agoBecause that’s what tires are made out of, and they wear away as you drive (that’s why you need to replace tires every so often as the treads wear away). That material doesn’t just disappear, it gets ground down and dispersed into the environment as they’re used.
It’s one reason why electric cars aren’t a great solution for anyone but car manufacturers—the tires. They’ll cut down on fossil fuel use and fuel emissions, yes, but that’s not the only way cars pollute.
EDIT: Also, thank you for asking! Always happy to explain :)

iheartneopets@lemm.eeto science@lemmy.world•Chewing gum can shed microplastics into saliva, pilot study findsEnglish15·3 months agoCurrent advice is actually to not rinse after brushing, as you’re meant to let the fluoride of the toothpaste sit against your teeth for thirty minutes.
Unfortunately, I would recommend not losing sleep over either source of microplastics (chewing gum or toothbrushes), until tires and synthetic clothing are done away with by society. Those are much MUCH bigger, inescapable sources of microplastics
Not all, Gen Z starts at '95. Elder Gen Z is approaching their 30s

iheartneopets@lemm.eeto World News@lemmy.ml•The truth about organic milk: cows are suffering on even the most “humane” dairy farms1·1 year agoYou can buy various flavors, though? Just like any other types of alt milks, there’s kinds that are sweetened and made to taste like vanilla, or kind that’s just sweetened, or chocolate soy, or unsweetened
iheartneopets@lemm.eeto World News@lemmy.ml•The truth about organic milk: cows are suffering on even the most “humane” dairy farms73·1 year agoA lot of baby cows are just straight up kidnapped from mom and killed. No way around that. Some are raised to adulthood, but on most dairy operations the kidnapping still happens even then, otherwise the calf ends up drinking the farmer’s ‘product’ and cutting into profits. Look up footage of a calf being taken from its mom in this process. Absolutely fucking devastating.
iheartneopets@lemm.eeto World News@lemmy.ml•The truth about organic milk: cows are suffering on even the most “humane” dairy farms4·1 year agoI agree. I really like soy milk and was always so confused by the hype for new alternatives—not confused that people might like something else, mind you, just confused at the overall hype, to the extent that people forget soy exists and is better at many of the things the newer alternatives lack. Protein content and water usage being chief among them.

iheartneopets@lemm.eeto Movies@lemmy.world•Have you ever been to a movie so terrible that you saw people leaving the theater? Which one was it?English3·1 year agoThe only time I’ve ever experienced this was with Skinamarink, had two different people walk out of it. I completely understand why people don’t like it, but I was in the 50% of people who saw it that it totally worked for. It got under my skin in a way no other horror movie has (even amongst some really good ones that I really loved/was scared by!), and it was the first one in a while that scared me as an adult. For a long time after seeing it, I hated walking around my house at night for any reason.
