Just because the second verse literally has its own implied threat does not mean the first verse is unrelated. In songs and paragraphs adjacent sentences are typically related- its how English works- but I can’t speak for all languages.
Yes the implied violence and the introduction of grandpas gun are purely coincidental! How misleading of OP!
I’ve used mailbox.org for the last few years. They are a privacy-focused provider out of Germany. They aren’t restrictive on the app you use, like proton, and offer an integrated PGP-signing solution.
I don’t see how a small group like that could truly oppress them
That’s wild because it’s literally explained in the article and then quoted by me here. It’s the part of my posts you keep ignoring.
Your questions are not unanswered- the white minority council has evidentially maintained power by ignoring elections and by holding private special elections, like they did in 2020, and by also refusing to allow elections to take place, like they did in 2022.
The only point you’ve made is that reading the article is not a requirement to comment on it.
What are you suggesting happened?
I’m suggesting that what happened with this election may have happened in the past.
When he approached Stokes for information about running for mayor, Stokes allegedly gave Braxton “wrong information about how to qualify” for the election, and did not provide public notice to residents about the election.
just weeks after his election, Stokes and his council members Gary Broussard, Jesse Donald Leverett, Voncille Brown Thomas and Willie Richard Tucker allegedly “met in secret to adopt a ‘special’ election ordinance.” Notice of the meeting was not published, and the group set a special election for Oct. 6, 2020.
No notice of that election was ever published, according to the lawsuit. Because the election was not publicized, only Stokes and his council members qualified.
you wrote:
It sounds like everyone has just been completely apathetic to who’s running the town, including the 85% black majority.
Does it? It actually sounds like a white minority council bends over backwards to keep themselves in power by ignoring opposition and holding private special elections.
What I mean by “regular” is the kind of election where people go out to vote for one of two or more candidates. Someone winning by default doesn’t say much about what the people want, except that they, once again, don’t seem to really care.
Don’t confuse oppression with apathy.
Stokes and his council allegedly changed the locks for a third time, and according to the lawsuit, Braxton and his council have not had “uninterrupted access” to the building since April 2021. This meant that in November 2022, he could not help set up voting machines for Newbern’s most recent election.
They will not let them hold elections. Read the article before you “innocently assume” these people “don’t seem to really care”.
Yes, I’m sure they haven’t held an election in 165 years because the 85% black population all agreed it would just be a waste of time. Are you serous?
There actually was a regular election- the incumbents just declined to run a candidate against Braxton. Are you suggesting we should cast doubt on that result until the incumbents agree to qualify a candidate (so, never)?
I think I’m overly sensitive because my power is very expensive and my home is getting pretty warm right now!
Its only easy to call out anti-protesters if you’re well organized. When police attack peaceful protesters and launch tear gas into peaceful crowds, to force dispersion, people panic and act unpredictably.
Yes but how do you know if the people causing property damage are protesters or anti protestors? That was the crux of my last comment. Nobody likes when protesters are violent so showing up to a protest and starting violence is an easy way to shut it down.
Is there a particular genre? I dont pay attention to most game stories. Some of these suggestions have an online mode but ive only played single player.
age of empires 4 (1v1 against ai), 7days to die, vampire survivors, valheim.
That’s so much electricity though! That equipment is typically so cheap bc the power draw is nuts. I agree the pi isnt the right move but why burn up so much power when they won’t be using practically any of it, to learn?
I’d suggest a small, used x86-64 mini-pc, throw in 16gb of ram and a HDD. If you dont pay for electricity, like in a dorm, then the old server-grade stuff is the way to go. Plus it will keep you very toasty in the winter.
I think this is geared towards folks who are convinced counting calories doesnt work. That they are gaining weight even though they “only has 1k calories per day”.
Those are two separate issues. I use a private instance so all my communities only show two subscribers even though I can see all of the posts and comments.
We saw evidence during the BLM protests that violence was being started by police by both beating on peaceful protesters and using agent-provocateurs. The most famous example was the hooded man wearing police issued boots, who wasnt participating in the protest, knocking out the windows of a Target.
My point is that if violence and property destruction discredit a protest for you then the police have already won. They can turn any protest into violence and destruction if not by outright attacking peaceful protests, then by using an agent-provocateur.

You can host a kbin instance with little resources if you have a VPS. Otherwise- you can find kbin instances with open sign-ups here: https://fedidb.org/software/kbin
The mini PC is your best bet. I only have ARM SBCs but they have a lot of limitations. If I needed something new it would likely be a used mini PC. I dont have any suggestions unfortunately. I saw something posted a couple weeks ago that was some university surplus- $30 used mini PC’s, including the case- which will run circles around any ARM SBC. I think shipping was another $30 but still a great deal. Find something like that.
You’d be better off with something that has an EMMC slot (or ideally SATA connection). Running the OS off of an SD card is painfully slow. I’ve also found USB storage to be way more reliable than SD cards, in general. I used an external 4-bay drive connected via usb3 for years and never had issues. Burned through many SD cards over the same period.
