Surround sound didn’t work for me with the Jellyfin player and with the native player language selection didn‘t work. If you don’t have to transcode and spare a few quid, Infuse is great. Sadly can’t recommend it to my friends accessing my server from outside my home network because of said lack of transcoding.
I know, but it shouldn’t matter. Also, it feels like the amount the A port is cheaper an A to A cable would be more expensive
I have an external 3.5“ HDD enclosure that has a USB-A port to connect the usb cable to. I have no idea who thought that was a good idea. The difference in price to a B connector can’t be that significant…
Not the closest. Ceres is a dwarf planet inside the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter.
Nah, I can actually believe that. If you’re a below average guy (be it because of your looks or weight), your chances of getting matches on tinder are very slim. I‘m not an ugly guy and I barely had any matches, back when I was on tinder
Bing is the default engine in Edge which is the default browser on Windows. There’s a huuuge demographic who doesn’t care enough to change either of those.
Also, Bing profits from other search engines using their results as a base. DuckDuckGo, for example, uses Bing as their primary source for search results. And in my experience is better at it than google, these days.
The gap has been favouring bing (DuckDuckGo) for a while now in my experience. Every time I use Google or just doesn’t find what I’m looking for. Just a few days ago, when Bing was down and I had to use Google, I tried searching for the new beta nvidia Linux drivers. Google didn’t even include the official nvidia site in the first page of results. When I later searched for the same thing again, using DuckDuckGo, it was the first result… and stuff like that happens every time I need to use Google. The only category Google still seems to have a slight edge in is current (as in happening right now) events.
Yea, had to use google for a few searches and man was it frustrating. Like, I was looking for the new beta nvidia drivers on Linux, and google, for some reason, didn’t see it necessary to show me the official nvidia site in the first page of results. In DuckDuckGo, later that day, when it was available again, it was result N°1
Two things: While I’d agree, that most PC-Based gaming handhelds are not consoles, I would disagree in case of the steam deck. Its software and especially user interface are purpose built for its controls and it works just like any other console, unless you don’t want it to.
Secondly, the commenter before did state that the switch had the worst graphics of any handheld. They did not specify handheld consoles. Steam Deck, Ayaneo, ROG Ally and co might or might not be consoles, depending on who you ask, but they most definitely are handheld gaming devices. And handheld gaming devices with better performance than the switch at that.
It does however have the worst graphics of a mainstream handheld console that is currently produced/sold.
The most powerful portable console ever
Yea because no one besides nintendo makes any portable consoles anymore. That’s like Apple saying “It’s the best iPhone we ever made”, every time they introduce a new one…
And it’s not even necessarily true, if you count the steamdeck as a console, which one might.
And still, the hardware of the switch was already obsolete when it launched. The Tegra X1‘s only redeeming quality is a comparatively high graphics performance compared to most off the shelf mobile SoC, but even it is slow compared to an iPhone 11 or heck a 250€ tablet with a Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 blows the switch out of the water, performance wise. You’ll even get more memory, more storage, etc.
That isn’t to say, the switch is bad. The performance is adequate for the typical Nintendo games but you can’t tell me the recent pokemon games or Zelda TodK run great, barely hitting 30fps. Which is not surprising, considering most midrange mobile phones are quicker by now and the switch is stuck with a graphics chip that most closely compares to a GTX 830M. A 5 generations and 10 years old graphics chip that wasn’t even fast when it was new.
And back to the steamdeck again: while it is a bit more expensive than a switch, it’s still a damn good deal, especially on the used market and even able to emulate switch games with better performance than the switch itself. And, unlike the switch, it is actually able to play modern games fairly well, while the switch either runs them at subpar quality or only via streaming.
The 970 works for encoding h.264 only. My recommendation: If you have a 7th Gen Intel CPU with iGPU or later, use that. Otherwise, sell the 970 and get one of these (in this order):
The Intel Card has the best encoder, followed by Nvidia Turing, then Pascal. I recently sold my 970 and got a 1050 Ti for the same price. Works great with Jellyfin. If you need to tone map HDR, you probably shouldn’t get anything with much lower performance than that. If it’s just some UHD to HD or h.265 to h.264 for compatibility, even the P400 will work well.
A few reasons.
For one, storing multiple versions of the same film takes up a lot of storage, which is more expensive than a cheap 40€ gpu for transcoding. And I definitely wanna keep the highest quality I can. Besides transcoding on the fly is more flexible, ensuring the best possible quality at any time, instead of having to pick between the good and the shit version.
And secondly, usually I only need transcoding when I don’t watch on my home setup (or when some friends watch on my server). My upload isn’t as high as some of my film’s bitrates and some clients do not support h.265 or HDR thus needing transcoding and/or tonemapping.
You can. There are gameboy sized portable Wiis you can build, that have a multiple hour battery life and can play gamecube games just fine. So, if a 22 year old home console can do it on the go, why can’t a console that was purpose built for portable gaming?
Mario Odyssey runs at 60fps. Why can’t a graphically less intense game that was originally made for a console that is now over 20 years old? A console, that can also be emulated on a raspberry pi or any phone, really. This really shouldn’t be a noteworthy battery life hit. Even less so when the switch is docked…
But then why isn‘t Ceres also a Planet? Or Eris? Or Quaoar? Or any of the other objects classified as dwarf planets
The answer is easy: Besides their size, they all behave very differently from the actual Planets. Doesn’t mean they’re any less important, they’re just something slightly different.
That’s Pluto erasure. Pluto isn’t a planet but it’s damn well part of our solar system.
Which is fair, I suppose, if you really only have one SATA port left. Then a RAID 1 through that device might work well enough. Wouldn’t be my first choice though… and definitely not for RAID 0. Not that RAID 0 should be anyone’s first choice, nowadays.
Really? I hated SourceTree. It was the reason why I switched to GitKraken in the first place. Haven’t needed to use git in a few years now but especially when dealing with conflicts, GitKraken was just infinitely superior and sourcetree annoyingly barebones.
