Technically I’m half right and half wrong (I think). It’s not illegal to backup media that one owns, but it is illegal to break DRM/copy protection which is required to rip most physical media these days.

Suffice to say the legality of it is a cluster fuck, but the morality, in my opinion, is pretty clear. Fuck the corpos.

That is just horrendous. I am not a coder by trade or education, but I do a fair amount of it in my job. I may heavily use copy and paste, but I at least make sure it matches the structure of my current code, and I always include the URL to where I got it in a comment above the code.

That’s been my point for a while now. The Montgomery Bus Boycott lasted over a year. It could only be maintained because of the social bonds and connectedness of the people involved. In almost every way it is a better point in time to be alive than any other except for that of social connections. In the US at least people are more isolated than they have ever been and their sources of reality/truth blunted.

Social movements and change seem to not only need events and hardships but individuals that can harness and rally people.

There are so many different things to blame for it, but I think cars are a big culprit. They insure that infrastructure is designed to keep people separated from each other. Not specifically or with intent, but that is the result.

This is what truly pisses me off about Google/Alphabet bitching about Apple not supporting RCS. Google does not offer any kind of API or access for developers to hook into RCS messaging and the have structured it in such a way with extensions to the standard that are Google only so even if there were other RCS providers it wouldn’t be fully compatible. Fuck.

Researching anything that happened on the internet right now in the future is going to be absolute hell considering how much useful user information and interactions are “locked” behind Discord. Is there a term for something worse than link rot? With link rot it’s a case of a known unknown. With information on Discord it’s an unknown unknown.

Why pay? I think the answer is pretty easy. If one doesn’t want to self host. Running any kind of web based service costs the person running it money. Google obviously makes money off of a user doing searches via adds and data collection. I would actually have no issue paying for certain Google services if it meant that as a paying customer they would not double dip and try and profit off the data they are collecting on me.

This is all coming from a person who has a server rack in my basement and multiple PCs scattered throughout my home, so I am no stranger to self hosting.

I have always thought that the people you are talking about should be able to get insurance, maybe even at a reasonable rate, but if/when a natural disaster occurs the insurance payout should be for a property/place not in a high risk zone rather than rebuilding, and that land should then be disallowed for human habitation.

Basically a compromise of sorts. I’m sure someone will tell me why I’m wrong though, lol.

Yeah, that’s what I currently do. I’m just constantly annoyed how restricted I seem to be in Firefox mobile in general with add-ons. No scripting add-on, no redirect add-on, no User Agent add-on. I still run Firefox as my main on all devices, but using it on mobile is definitely my least favorite.

This still can’t be installed on standard FireFox mobile, right?

And that’s why variety of choices (not just different people, but different people with very different backgrounds) is great/important! One never know what they are going to connect with.
