Fusarium spores are viable in the soil for more than 30 years. They also tend to infect multiple species, once they are in a region they are there for good. The spores are transmitted around the world in on seeds or soil. The spores are found at a very low rate (like 1:1,000,000,000) on the surface of many species of seeds. It’s well below the detection level of any test.
They are cheap because they are a commodity and exploit low paid workers.
Consumers adapt to observable diversification if the product is superior and significantly different. They are almost totally ignorant if the differences are small and the product is similar. That’s not the reason.
The issue is that most of the banana production is handled by very few companies. Changing varieties complicates their internal processes, will cost them money, and they will not do it until forced to do so.

From what I have seen, unhappy marriages are very common in highly religious/conservative groups.
Most of these groups have stupid “No Sex before marriage” rules. So two horny young adults (teenagers in some cases) get married quickly. Pregnancy follows immediately and they start being parents before they are fully mature.
Fast forward 5-6 years later and they don’t even like each other anymore. The smart ones do the adult decision and divorce.
Way too many of them live misery constantly bickering while claiming to be “happily married” because “divorce is a sin”. They then spend most of their time complaining about their spouses. The kids of course have all sorts of baggage from growing up in the toxic environment.
So you’ve got to be dumbed down a little to love the little monsters… Checks out.
In poorer countries, the investment into each child is minimal. By the time they were 8 or 9 years old they were expected to contribute to the family. Higher child mortality rates also plays into this, as most families lose a few kids to disease etc. Children are seen as a commodity that they control to make the parents/grandparents lives better.
In industrialized societies the amount of resources dedicated to each child is more than the the resources dedicated to 5 or 6 families in poorer countries. Children are dependent on their parents well into adulthood. As the cost to raise the kids increase the average family size decreases because of limited resources.

Weird how my school district that pays a living wage has 200 qualified teachers applying to every position. It amazing what paying g 30-40% more than the surrounding states does.
So in terms a biologist can understand: If it’s not charge what is the difference between normal and negative matter?

What most people think of as being “really smart” is polymaths. These are people that suck up knowledge from many fields and make novel connections. It is believed that they are extremely rare. Some even argue they don’t exist
Modern academia focuses on a high degree of specialization which excludes most polymaths. So we have specialists that are highly intelligent in their narrow field of expertise but ignorant in most everything else. The bulk of the “smart” 1% are these types of people.
Most people only have around 4 hours of highly productive work in them a day. The rest is just filler on an 8+ hour day when nothing much is accomplished. Or even worse, it’s when errors are made that take away from productivity as they fix them.
Commuting sucks out of the highly productive time. So if someone commutes for 2 hours a day, that’s 50% less productivity to the company.
For the managerial types out there. The old adage is completely wrong. Time is not money, productivity is money.
The Jordanian military has quite a bit of U.S. military equipment like F-16’s and Blackhawks.
They also have 3000 troops stationed. Mainly for support roles and cooperative efforts.
Jordan is a long term ally of the U.S. and honestly not a bad spot to visit if you have a chance. I’ve been there probably a dozen times on business.
They have lost a bunch of them. 2 billion last year and this year starts off well.

You basically just described every rural town, anyplace in the world I have traveled to.
The younger generation leaves the rural communities for the opportunities found in larger cities and towns. What is left behind is 50+ year olds with no-one to pass the farm onto. Eventually they sell out to someone or go bankrupt. The consolidation of land resources continues.
My wife and I are some of those the fled the rural hellscape. Those that stayed behind have spent their lives in poverty and ignorance. Both of my grandparents went bankrupt farming and died living with some of their kids in a city.
They originally theorized it was the antioxidants 30+ years ago. However more recent papers have shown that it’s the alcohol itself that has the benefits, at the right dosage.

The author of the article took bit of liberty with a “even a small amount”. 0.08 BAC is around 2-3 drinks for most people depending on sex and weight. It’s also legally drunk in most places.
So what the study is slowing us yet more proof why overuse of alcohol is detrimental to a person’s health. The only thing interesting in this study is it shows possible evidence of the mechanism that causes the harm.
Studies have consistently shown that anything above 1-2 drinks daily or 0.04-0.06 BAC is bad for your health. As with any other drug, the correct dosage is key.
Now why the study authors decided not to include a 0.04 BAC level control in their study is beyond me. The lower dose repeatedly shows benefits in large scale population studies.
Yep, I caught all three, Measles, Mumps, and Rubella, before I was old enough to get the vaccine.
