  • My guess is that as the need for housing has increased (population growth, short term rentals taking up supply, etc), we haven’t been building the right kind of homes to fill the void.

Nobody is out there using land to build “starter homes”. It’s either large, expensive houses or apartment complexes, so the demand for home ownership is high, but the ones available to buy aren’t cheap.

It would be like if nobody made affordable cars, so most drivers were stuck either leasing or saving up for a Lamborghini. (Hyperbole, but you get the idea)

  • I prefer how information dense and responsive steam is.

Epic is laggy, logs me out constantly, and is inefficiently organized (at least by default). I don’t want to scroll through cards or change my sorting filters/layout each time I want to find something. When I open steam, it has a permanent tab that says LIBRARY at the top, and when I click on that, it gives me a massive scrollable list of my games, defaulting to A-Z. Simple is better.

Plus, user reviews are really nice to have when considering dropping $ on something.

  • People like to characterize those they already want to disagree with by the worst, most extreme examples of the group. So before even considering the benefits/drawbacks of veganism, people have already chosen their position after thinking “vegans are just so preachy and annoying”.

It’s putting outrage before reason, and it’s really common in social media and news:

    • Think about how Fox News viewers picture liberals as the least coherent, unreasonable individuals that they see get interviewed, when in reality most are just normal people.

    • Or the reverse: how people in liberal circles might see conservatives depicted as Maga-hat wearing weirdos who think 5G is killing them.

    • Same with how many religious people evaluate atheism or atheists think of religion by their worst representatives.

In short, I think the answer is that it’s a symptom of tribalism and identity-politics.

  • This user is just the latest in a series of spammers since Lemmy has grown in popularity. It’s hard to tell if they have some vendetta against the platform or are just maladjusted and want to annoy people having a good time.

As someone who posts across Lemmy a lot, I am usually made aware of the spammers almost immediately, because my inbox will be full of the same spam comment replies all at once. I just report them up to the various instances when I see it.
