  • No.

If you want police reform, look to California and gun reform. We would have to convince people of color and poor people to join the police in RECORD numbers at the same time organize and protest against using tax dollars to pay for shitty cop cases. The bad cops will be replaced but it would take a long time for the systemic leadership to be replaced. Honestly though, if you replace the patrols then a lot of change would happen. The racist old leadership might just shut up till they retire.

Shit, pass a law stating all police court cases with the police found at fault, must be paid by the police union. Eventually the bad cops will get fired and replaced with younger cops. Then when the police are looking more like the people they are policing, then laws will be passed to hold cops accountable.

  • I also prefer tv shows just because there’s more time for proper story telling and character development.

This is why the Netflix Marvel shows are better than most of the MCU movies. They usually spend an episode fleshing out the villain and the villains having a good backstory makes an interesting story overall. The MCU did a good job telling us about Thanos because they didn’t have to introduce anyone else during that saga.

  • SMB 3 was a big deal when it came out. Not only was the game a delight to play, but they had a whole ass movie where they “debuted” the game at the end of it. The whole movie was pretty much a long Nintendo commercial showing different games and the power glove and all. The end was a video game competition and SMB 3 was the surprise game. They even showed where to get the first warp whistle.

    I liked that movie.

  • I mean I get that. I just don’t personally see it as that. I do eat fried chicken and watermelon (and other soul food like greens, sweet potatoes, etc). I don’t eat them as much as I want because the places around me don’t make good soul food anymore. The quality is down in my opinion.

I mentioned the day because all holiday celebrations include food. I also mentioned in my opinion, that everyone loves that type of food. I just didn’t think of it as “black food” but I know it is stereotypically a trope. I think this understanding of other people’s racist tropes and my love of celebrating with loved ones and good food is where I (and assuming OP) is coming from.

Is the main issue the intent? If you eat corned beef for St Paddy’s or carne asada for Cinco de Mayo is that an issue? If we ask black people what we should eat for Black History Month or Juneteenth and they agreed that soul food is good then is it okay? Should we just stick to burgers and dogs like it’s the 4th of July?

I feel we can never really have these conversations (IRL) because people assume what the other person means when they are trying to understand the reason behind it.

All that to say, we have to be extra vigilant because racists are everywhere pushing their agenda, so I understand that this trope could be insulting to some. I’ve also met black people that don’t give it a second thought because the food is good and they were hungry.
