You’re right, I do have a very pessimistic outlook on this subject. I personally see this as an emerging battle of sorts between the technology sector of the West and China, but it may not be that dire. There may still be hope for cooperation and positive competition.

You’re also right about there being a large software development component that would be made less likely by a shaky future. Though I think that could be overcome by force and focus, and I have to admit, that is something I respect about the Chinese tech sector.

I am also pretty amazed in general with the progress that’s been made on these chips in such a short time, props to them for that.

Huawei does indeed have a good track record and history regarding IP, but I would say there is a cultural expectation of cooperation with IP holders, and if that cooperation is perceived to be lacking then the IP rights are disregarded. The balance of power is not the same as it is with American/European countries. Which is what I mean when I say they will pick up the licensing rights on the cheap, or they will give a middle finger.

The western world is not exactly cooperating with Huawei(for better or worse), and it’s likely that they may “return fire” if given sufficient motivation.

Bold of you to assume that a Chinese company will care about licenses and patents. When they want to employ this Huawei will either purchase said license on the cheap or they will put up a giant middle finger and disrupt the market and patent holders.

As pessimistic as it sounds, I think you’re right. There’s likely some back pay they will have to give to the workforce they fired, which is a pittance compared to what they stand to earn as they milk their purchase dry.

I’d say wait for the details to surface, and if it truly ends up being police state overstep, I hope their citizens hold them accountable in whatever way will bring about change. I like the French methods personally.

Granted it isn’t the US, so our customs and laws don’t apply. That being said, it really depends on how they got the evidence I think.

If it was a public post(intentionally or accidentally public), or someone reported it, or snapchat’s TOS authorizes scanning and reporting “private” messages, then yeah, seems like this teenager’s actions should have consequences.

If it’s a result of an illegal police state that has access to people’s private communications, the evidence should be fully inadmissible. And the response is a result of information that should not have been in their hands to begin with, making this 100% on them.

You’re right, we have new ones. There’s a reason why the billionaire class pays a less than 10% effective income tax, and that’s just on the income that’s realized.

What do you have in mind to eliminate the disparity in wealth that plagues us, reducing the American standard of living to subsistence and poverty? I’m sure ya have one, right?

The top tax rate bracket in the US was over 90% from 1944-1963. A median single income worker could own a home, have healthcare, food, and afford kids. GDP was doing just fine, I assume that’s what you mean by revenue.

The top tax rate now is 37%, and a median single income earner can sometimes afford a 1 bedroom without relying on a 2nd set of income. Can’t afford buying a home. Food scarcity is getting worse. Healthcare is fucked beyond belief. And kids are just flat out of the question.

As a country we aren’t getting our fair share of the value of our labor. Ideally the benevolent job creators would create good paying jobs, and make the middle class stop struggling. When this doesn’t happen, we need to give them an incentive. I’m not saying we should increase taxes, unless there is no other option.

What ideas besides taxes do you have to make the billionaire class give us a minimum standard of living that isn’t dystopian?

Cool. We would like less millionaires and billionaires hoarding wealth until the minimum standard of living in America isn’t homelessness and food insecurity. So why is it a bad thing to tax the hoarding of wealth?

This trickle down shit hasn’t worked in 40 years, restore the tax rates to before that started fucking up our country, give them the incentive to pay their employees rather than the government.

Crazy that a millionaire tax in MA could cause this trend countrywide. Just crazy. /s
