You have a lot of legal right you may or may not choose to exercise. For example, if you have the right to own firearms they don’t issue you a firearm just because you haven’t purchased one yet.

If I recall it right, there wasn’t always the concept of a public defender who could represent someone even if they couldn’t afford a lawyer. You had to already have a lawyer in order to even use that right. This was eventually changed and resulted in the creation of public defenders.

From what I have heard, public defenders are really overworked and spread thin, so you may want to have a lawyer setup to represent you if you ever get into trouble with the law. I have also heard it’s good to know several lawyers as the one who can help you draft a will is different than the one to help you purchase real estate and the one to keep you out of jail.

Oh man, if only there was a commercially available grate solution for this exact type of location.

I’d wager that they next time they do maintenance to the road or sidewalk that spot gets fixed. So 10-30 years out, probably.

I love the idea and it’s something I thought about doing too, so I’m super interested in this thread.

For me, I thought it would be interesting to remove the existing stereo and mount everything it the double-DIN hole left behind. That would give you access to power, ignition, and speaker wires easily. You would need to do some rewiring between cars, but it would be the most practical spot.

From working on some fleet vehicles before, I’ve seen interesting systems where all of the accessories were on their own battery that only charged when the car was running or off an external charging cord that could be connected if it was going to sit for a while.

The benefit of a separate power system was that the equipment didn’t need to boot up every time you started the car. Maybe the display and anything else could be powered only when running, but if the main computer was always powered that would save time. It could also get a signal from a battery maintainer that the accessory battery is low and perform a graceful shutdown.

Well, racism is not, unfortunately, either a recent invention or an exclusive ideology either. As an example, the stereotype of a drunk Irishman is a racist stereotype that was also common in America’s history. If you can define a group of people, chances are there is a stereotype about them.

The one that sticks in my head is “gypped” for getting screwed over is based on gypsies and is the equivalent of saying “jewed” for some other people. Either one is a racist stereotype, but I didn’t realize the first wasn’t just a common term until it was pointed out to me.

I used MotionEye at one point to monitor my laundry using a RPi nano and a USB webcam. Pretty sure it just ended up with a web interface I could pull up on phone or computer on the local network.

Honestly, I’ve seen this too many times working in IT. The best option was always to set up a computer with a local administrator account, no access to the secure network, and let the entire department have access to it.

Install the camera software(s) on there and only there. Videos are then exported into a common file type and transferred through USB or DVD.

I’ve worked with Police departments that had dozens of different, unique software each with their own proprietary codec. Every time they requested a recording from a business there would be another unsigned .exe to run. Straight garbage.

I’ve seen a lot of rulers that actually don’t have a mark at 0 and instead go right to the edge as 0. Typically they are worn down, being made of wood, so the accuracy of the first inch is dubious. To ensure the distance is correct, sliding the ruler down one unit is a good idea. So, my ruler starts at 0 but my measurements start at 1.

Usually age has the opposite effect, but I hear they make pills for that.

Exactly! Peaceful protests are allowed and encouraged. Demonstrations, speeches, picket signs, marches, sit-ins, etc.

Riots on the other hand are a problem. Burning cars, breaking windows, stealing from unrelated businesses, hurting people, etc.
