If you’re just getting into DMC because of the Netflix Anime, the game you should skip is DMC2 for a few reasons:
-
The original director of DMC1 (Hideki Kamiya) did not return for the sequel.
-
The person they replaced him with did not like Dante, nor had any experience in the genre (DMC combat exists because of a glitch from Onimusha and being able to “juggle” enemies)
-
Itsuno (director of DMC 3-5) came in towards the end of the development (it was clear the game was struggling) and added some things to improve the quality
-
take all the above, you have a game that doesn’t have the characterization, tone, finesse, gameplay of the original- and just a bad game at that
5/ To make matters worse, the game ended on a cliffhanger that is never brought up again or resolved in any following games. It was chronologically supposed to be a game that takes place later in his life, but literally now just takes place after DMC1**___**
