Fun fact, Ukraine gave up its nukes according (in part) to the Budapest Memorandum where Russia, the US, France, and the UK agreed to not attack Ukraine (except in self defense - hence Russian propaganda about Ukraine starting the war).
Sadly demonstrating that denuclearizatiom is a pipedream and probably a mistake for any State… :/
I remember seeing the coverage at the time, and saying to a colleague that Ukraine was making a huge mistake. He scoffed at the idea a middle-aged woman, even one with degrees in highly relevant fields, could grasp geopolitics. And now I’m an old woman, thinking quietly, ‘X, you were an idiot then, and you are an idiot now.’

Dislike the guy but as Saddam Hussein said basically - if my neighbors have swords, why can’t I have swords?
Nuclear powers are assholes these days, wish we could arm everyone and just embrace nuclear destruction personally
