I’m not arguing, I’m just honestly asking questions. Why is NATO imperialistic? From my perspective, they are trying to help an independent country defend itself from people who are trying to take it from them by force.

NATO actively pushed the Ukrainians into this war, because what is happening here is a proxy war. NATO, US and EU officials openly admit this, and even brag about it.

This war didn’t start in 2022. It started in 2012 with the Maidan coup.

Furthermore, if you think NATO is not an imperialist organization, then I don’t think you’ve been following what has been going on in the world since its inception.

I’m still a bit confused. It was Ukraine that was attacked by Russia and needed to defend itself. How did NATO push them into war?

How did NATO push them into war?

In Cold War, NATO was created basically to fight communism, in time it envolved to fight any “non-aligned” country (any country that wasn’t in the USA’s sphere of “influence”, or trying to leave it). In 1991 USSR was forcedly dissoveld, against the will of most people, according to a referendum. In the occasion, USA signed serious agreements in Minsk (search for Minsk agreements) that included a commitment that NATO would not extend its frontiers a single meter in Russia direction; that was broken several times. In 2014 Ukrainian legitmate government fell due a midiatic coup (search for Euromaindan), supported by NATO. Since then, far-right, neo-nazi groups are oppressing the Russian speaking people of Ukraine, mainly in the region of Donbass. So, in 2021 Ukraine’s newly elected government, who in the campaign demonstrated will of return diplomatic relations with Russia, that were almost inexistent since 2014, suddenly turn it’s cloak and demonstrated will of to enter in NATO. That’s a resume of history. If you really want to know things you need to do your own research. Nobody’s has obligation to teach you anything, even more information that’s public domain.

Thanks for answering to that guy. It was pretty obvious they were not here “just asking questions”, and also obvious they were downvoting any answer they got, but it’s good to engage the trolls and show other people reading the conversation the reality.

I’m not even anti-NATO or anti-Selensky, but man this is naive. NATO is a political tool like any other organisations funded by nations.
