The United Nations’ top court opens hearings Thursday into South Africa’s allegation that Israel’s war with Hamas amounts to genocide against Palestinians, a claim that Israel strongly denies.
You have to be either blind or paid off to say it’s not a genocide to kill 90% of civilians and displace from their home 80% of the total population.
Or if you consider 2+ civilians for every combatant “tremendously positive”.
At that point you’re indicating your goal is to kill civilians, or you have such a low, subhuman view of them that their deaths are inconsequential. Would the IDF consider two Israeli civilians for every Hamas “tremendously positive”?
For context even if we assume Hamas killed everyone who died on October 7th, they still did a better job at not killing civilians. And this is also assuming Israel is actually counting civilians and not just counting all men of “fighting age”.
Ironically, according to Wikipedia the ratio on October 7th was almost exactly 2 civilians for every soldier/police officer
From twitter:
“I can NOT find the International Court of Justice hearing on CNN, BBC, Channel 4, Fox News, MSNBC, CNBC, CBS, NBC, I24, DW, Sky News, or any mainstream US/EU TV channel”
I don’t watch TV, so I’m ignorant to this – is this normally something they’d broadcast?
Anyone know if we can watch the proceedings being live streamed?
Al Jazeera is streaming it live on their site and YouTube.
A very compelling and at times upsetting presentation by the South African legal team.
Sadly this will come down to politics and judges will vote how their country of origin wants. Finkelstein sums it up well. https://x.com/mohammedakunjee/status/1743665609794019391?s=20
