When the streaming giant began making films guided by data that aimed to please a vast audience, the results were often generic, forgettable, artless affairs. But is there a happy ending?

We really are becoming dumber as a society. One benefit of AI is that it will give screenwriters the ability to create their own movies without these studio notes. The problem will be oversaturation because non-creative people will create their own stuff and that will make it difficult to find the gems among the slop.
I loathe exposition, and the worst part is that it’s pretty easy to avoid. I’m not much of a writer, and certainly not a screenwriter, but show me exposition and I’ll work around it.
The new Dune movies were a masterclass. There is so much you get from reading the story and the notes from in-universe books at the beginning of each chapter. Yet Villeneuve got the ideas across without jamming them down our throats.
