The Coens are probably my favorite filmmakers, with True Grit being my favorite of theirs. It has an amazing cast, sublime landscapes, and an incredible revenge/coming-of-age narrative in which all the characters have believable motivations and clever dialogue.

It’s hard to pick, but what do you think?

My favorite is undoubtedly Hudsucker Proxy. Written with Sam Raimi, super fun screwball comedy. “You know, for kids!”

I think the BEST one is probably Fargo though.

It’s an incredible film. All of the performances are fantastic and it’s so starkly beautiful. They’ve made a lot of good movies but Fargo will always be their masterpiece for me. It’s just got a fuckin’ vibe that no other movie has.

It was between True Grit and Fargo for me.

It’s amazing in how it constantly builds the stakes to something bad happening throughout while being such a tight narrative. It really is a masterpiece, among the best tragedies.

William H. Macy played such a good in-over-his-head sad sack.

They all lived together in an apartment at one point I think. Frances McDormand too if I remember correctly. Must have been an interesting place.
