restingboredface@sh.itjust.worksto Movies@lemmy.world•Who is an actor or two that will immediately pull you into seeing a movie?English5·4 months agoThis should be required viewing. Such a bummer we lost Alan Rickman too early and missed put on a sequel.
restingboredface@sh.itjust.worksto Movies@lemmy.world•THE ROSES | Official Trailer | Searchlight PicturesEnglish1·5 months agoGreat cast, looks fun. I wonder how much it will resemble War of the Roses. (I assumed the title is a reference to that film.)
restingboredface@sh.itjust.worksto Movies@lemmy.world•Companion | Official TrailerEnglish2·9 months agoThe font for the title looks like the font used for Campbell’s soup and I misread it at first thinking rhats what it said and wondered why anyone would make a movie about soup.
This movie looks considerably more interesting. Super excited to see Guillermo in something after What we do in the Shadows.

The guy got a large publicly available dataset (or one his university had access to) and mined it for interesting results to get a publication.
restingboredface@sh.itjust.worksto Movies@lemmy.world•Not a single original film broke the box office top 15 in 2024English4·9 months agoIt ends with us is the undercover GOAT of this list, making about 14 times its budget, and with a relatively low cost of $25M.
Everything else cost more than $100M except Kung fu Panda and didn’t return nearly as much proportionally.
restingboredface@sh.itjust.worksto Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Bathroom scale options?English22·9 months agoI have a withings and I really like it. Their privacy policy made me feel better about allowing my info on the cloud. You can run it offline (it sends weight via Bluetooth to the app but won’t show 7-day trend an scale screen without wifi). I don’t mind that, so I leave it disconnected. I don’t use a home assistant though so I can’t speak to that part.
I have the withings watch also, so I use the app as my catch all health tracker which works well. it’s nice to have everything together. Can’t speak to any others but I’d recommend withings.
restingboredface@sh.itjust.worksOPto Movies@lemmy.world•My Campy Halloween MoviesEnglish3·11 months agoOh Tremors is a great idea! And I’ve been debating whether to watch John Dies at the End because I love the books and wasn’t sure if the movie would be as good. Will add that to the list. Thanks!
restingboredface@sh.itjust.worksOPto Movies@lemmy.world•My Campy Halloween MoviesEnglish7·11 months agoYes we watched that one last October! Totally fits in the vibe. Really enjoyed it. I’m thinking we might do a series of revisits and that’s definitely on the list.

restingboredface@sh.itjust.worksto Movies@lemmy.world•Half in the Bag: Beetlejuice BeetlejuiceEnglish3·1 year agoI loved the original, and enjoyed this one. It was a respectable sequel, especially given how most sequels are hot garbage. Worth a watch if you enjoyed the original movie. Not necessarily theater worthy, but it was pretty great to hear the original Danny Elfman theme playing in the theater during the intro.
$700?!? Are you freaking kidding? I’ll stick with my PC, thanks.
restingboredface@sh.itjust.worksto science@lemmy.world•The dye in Doritos can make mice transparentEnglish53·1 year agoSo, I skimmed the article and may have missed it. Why is this anything more that tinkering with and (maybe torturing) mice? What’s the actual scientific value here? (Assuming invisibility potion wasn’t an actual goal)
Perhaps medical dyes for imaging?

Should speed up time to get a treatment out for widespread use.

restingboredface@sh.itjust.worksto Gaming@lemmy.ml•Borderlands is failing already.English1·1 year agoI would have fully supported a movie with Mister Torgue running around having adventures. Of course he would be played by John Cena in a mullet.
restingboredface@sh.itjust.worksto Movies@lemmy.world•The Borderlands Movie Is Seemingly Struggling To Sell TicketsEnglish108·1 year agoThey lost me the second they announced the cast. It’s like the people making the movie never once opened up a single one of the games.
Kevin Hart as Roland is just infuriating. It shows they had no intention of treating the IP with any level of respect and they just wanted a campy action comedy with famous actors.
restingboredface@sh.itjust.worksto Movies@lemmy.world•What are your thoughts on this movie?English3·1 year agoReally liked it. I have it on blu-ray and watch it every October as part of my spooky movie series.
It’s great vintage Burton. Depp and Ricci both fit their roles perfectly.
Walken was a weird choice for the horseman, but he does a good job with it and despite being a little outside the norm for Burton film (I know he was also in Batman Returns) Walken doesn’t take away from the movie IMO.
restingboredface@sh.itjust.worksto Gaming@lemmy.ml•Crazy rumour suggests Microsoft are preparing $16 billion offer for ValveEnglish4·1 year agoPlus they are bleeding money from all the acquisitions and haven’t seen the return they expected in game pass subs. The cost cutting isn’t done and it would be very surprising for them to try to dump more money into new storefronts when they are still trying to make their own business model profitable (to their expectations).
I love going to used music/movie stores. So much good stuff there that can’t be edited or de-streamed out of existence.
