A lot of people still buy into trickle down economics despite consistently not working for the several decades we have tried it and reflexively support tax cuts for the wealthy. A lot of those same people also think that kicking people off of what they consider to be “welfare” will somehow magically result in those people quickly becoming employed, thinking that the reason they aren’t employed is because they aren’t facing serious enough consequences for unemployment.
“The proletariat are in control” gets jailed for forming a union
My brother/sister, it’s 2025. We’re 45 years into American conservatives shrieking “bias” every time something less conservative than Goebbles says something. If you think anyone with any level of exposure to American conservative media (i.e., most of Lemmy) is going to react any way other than extremely negatively to you obstinately tossing around “biased” every third word and “just asking questions,” you’re gonna have a bad time.
As if the deterrent effect is from the possibility of suicide by cop instead of, idk, a critical mass within a community of armed people. It’s not like around 2019/20 we saw, firsthand, that when violence against cops increased their willingness to make frivolous stops decreased. But please, continue strawmanning this as some weird scenario where people are saying that suicide by cop will stop oppression.
What are little green men again?
I get that and I totally agree, but I don’t understand the food of comments here arguing that there won’t be reduced turnout in the middle of a Wednesday vs on a weekend. Most people with a full time job can’t just up and leave in the middle of a weekday with less than a week of notice, especially in large states with capitals that are far away. Turnout would be much better if it was on a weekend, and anybody denying that doesn’t live in reality.
No no, it’ll be a huge turnout and if you don’t agree then you’re an idiot for thinking that any significant amount of the population works 9-5 M-F. Just look at these comments! We can’t fail, we posted, “So when is the general strike and protest?” 78 times yesterday on every even vaguely political post, so turnout will be great in the middle of the day on Wednesday. Trust fam. /s
“Lemmy, my brother, for the last two years, has just said he’s tired and wandered off for EVERY single family porn might. He’s not even masturbating with us. What do you think is wrong?”
Lol shitty style guides are redditor brain, okay. Do you also wear beanies in the summer and wax your mustache?
“SLAM”
fuck out of here with that, come on
It is, but that’s also a defining feature of the presidential system as opposed to the parliamentary system.
Hey now, be fair. Moldova has a big presence there too… proportionately.
Wait do other people really not get that this is sarcasm?
“I don’t understand why turnover is so high. Ever since COVID people just don’t have any work ethic. The lockdowns really destroyed our economy in irreparable ways. Wait no, don’t quit.”
Wow so glad this is the lesser evil I’ll have to vote for. Fuck this country man.
Huh. Maybe people think this is some kind of British imposition? But like, it’s not.
Idk why you’re being downvoted, the country chose to be The Gambia, post independence, in order to avoid confusion with Zambia. Unless this changed after the fall of Jammeh?
Yes, and I’m not being hyperbolic. If you read early American caselaw explaining the rationale of sovereign immunity, the logic is that in monarchies it drives from the divine right of the sovereign. When we became independent we kept that legal concept, but the judges said that it derived from the will of the electorate rather than the divine right of the sovereign. Of course, the functional outcome was the same…
