This place is lame because it’s somehow even more obsessed with politics than Reddit. It’s draining to go to a social media site and constantly be subjected to negative headlines.

I couldn’t disagree more. This is what I hate about the internet in 2023. Everyone is expected to fall into one of two buckets, and if you don’t fall into the correct one, you’re just not welcome on certain sites and expected to make your own site somewhere completely separate. Nobody can handle when people disagree with them, so instead we just get horribly toxic echo chambers.

Back in 2014 you could express a moderately conservative opinion on Reddit without being banned from subs. Hell, back in 2014 you could express far-right opinions and people would just rightfully call you a moron. But today on basically every site, you have 3 options: Agree with the site’s opinion, keep your mouth shut, or get banned.

The internet was better when people were allowed to disagree with each other.

Funny how the same people who said “Private companies can do whatever they want” back in 2020 when people were upset about mask requirements are now losing their shit because a private company said their employees can’t wear masks.

A certain subset of people on the internet wants to die on the hill of masks like they’re almost upset that it’s no longer 2020 or something. Seriously go outside, touch grass, see that nobody gives a shit about masks in the real world.

And it’s ultimately an issue not even worth getting worked up over because I’d be willing to bet about 99% of In-N-Out employees never wear masks even when they’re knowingly sick.

This story is outrage media. Don’t take the bait.

I’d be in favor of that. Paid sick leave should be mandatory in all of America. Some states already have policies for that.

Even better yet employees could unionize.

Yeah if there is one thing about Reddit I wish wouldn’t carry over to Lemmy, it’s the political bias that’s completely disconnected from reality.

If you are legitimately upset over a company saying their employees can’t wear face masks, you’re in the minority. Most Americans don’t give a shit and have bigger things to worry about than mask policies in 2023.

With all due respect if you have a cold and work in food service you shouldn’t go to work.

Moving south to a warmer climate usually means either significantly warmer summers or a significantly higher cost of living. Or both.

Yeah it sucks dealing with extreme cold occasionally and long winters, but it’s a lot better than living in the south where it’s unbearably hot and humid for 8 months of the year. And any place with a temperate climate such as the Pacific coast is prohibitively expensive.

The upper Midwest really has some of the worst weather in North America. Get schlonged by freezing temps and snow for 6 months followed by heat for another 6 months.

Just about as much time as the Democrat candidate spends actually doing anything about it.

US politicians will probably mandate that people can’t set their AC below 80 degrees before they dare stop subsidizing the oil industry.
