PlexAmp is so good. Nothing else comes close.

The vault is going to be encrypted anyway, and I think there’s a lower chance of it falling into the wrong hands if it’s hosted with Bitwarden. Same reason I don’t self-host email.
Plus Bitwarden is a cool company and the product is open source, and the premium features are unreasonably low priced.
I’m with you that you shouldn’t have to, but putting your media directory one level up in a randomly generated directory name isn’t too bad. ~/[random uuid]/media/… may not be a terrible idea in any case.

I guess my confusion comes from why you are so adamantly against specifically providing the social security card, when providing proof of employment eligibility is a legal requirement. Clearly, you have no problem providing employment eligibility, why do you have such strong feelings about providing the social security card specifically?
And while agree, the fact that other documents can be provided to prove employment eligibility means that technically providing the SS card isn’t required, I’d caution you against saying “never” in our current political environment.
We’re splitting hairs here. It is a legal requirement to provide work elibility. If you provide a passport, or if you provide an ID and birth certificate, that sufficies. But many people choose ID and social security card. And yes, employers keep copies of work eligibility on file.
So I guess my question is, is your objection really to the act of asking for a lightweight cardboard card?
Editing comment for clarity.
All employers in the US need proof of two things: proof of identity, and proof of employment eligibility. A passport takes care of both.
But most people in my experience provide a state ID/driver’s license (identity), and either a social security card or birth certificate (employement.)
So, you can be on your high horse all you want, but you’re gonna provide the documents above if you want to work legally.
blitzen@lemmy.cato Technology@beehaw.org•Recommendations of non-Apple products with similar longevity?1·2 years agoGreat to know, however I don’t ever see myself buying a Windows laptop. A superbly built laptop (and trackpad) running Linux is the grail.
blitzen@lemmy.cato Technology@beehaw.org•Recommendations of non-Apple products with similar longevity?3·2 years agoI think the problem is there is no grey area in opinions on Apple. Either they are perfect and pro-privacy and all good (not true), or they are anti-consumer, anti-privacy, anti-user pro-capitalist (again, mostly not true.) Truth is somewhere in between, and judging the product without one of those preconceived notions above is helpful.
For me, I could never use a laptop by another maker because the trackpad on non-Apple devices are (in my experience) absolute garbage.
blitzen@lemmy.cato Technology@beehaw.org•Recommendations of non-Apple products with similar longevity?35·2 years agoApple products are without critique for sure. But if they last 2 or 3 times as long, are they all that anti-consumer? Compared to Windows, are they all that anti-privacy? I suggest you take another look, without your preconceived notions of Apple products.
