Slowy@lemmy.worldto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Can marine mammals live in freshwater?1·1 year agoYeah from my brief reading it seems they can adapt to food salinity by altering their urine concentrations so I don’t think that’s a huge factor, at least it’s not something that comes into play before the other factors begin to harm them. But if you could fix their skin and buoyancy, diet may start to matter. But their prey is also a different salinity than the water it lives in a lot of the time, and sometimes they eat land animals like birds and such ofc.

Slowy@lemmy.worldto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Can marine mammals live in freshwater?38·1 year agoThere are types of freshwater river dolphins in the Yangtze (well, one of these species probably is extinct there as of recently but still) and the Amazon, for example. Sea dolphins can survive in freshwater for awhile but their skin isn’t adapted to it, and it will get damaged eventually. That and the difference in buoyancy in sea water vs freshwater leads to the sea dolphins eventually getting exhausted in freshwater.
Can you be more specific about what you feel should be changed?

There’s a few exceptions for things that are services rather than freely spent balance but yeah, to me it seems unfair that they would be able to just absorb that money.

I think one factor is probably “advances” in food science. Look how many ingredients go into an average fast food bun, for example… we have so many hyper-processed foods made with not just hella preservatives, but instead of wheat flour and butter it’s like wheat and corn starch, gluten, various vegetable proteins and several different oils, etc all recombined in a rather industrial way. It’s cheaper, and it’s sometimes specifically engineered to appeal to our palates, but it’s been taken too far imo. This is not just an issue in fast food by any means.

You could have all the gaming communities you like under a custom gaming label, with a filter that checks for duplicate titles or links (wouldn’t be perfect but decent) and imports in the comments from duplicate threads (with some subheadings or something to distinguish their origin)
It’s just a very blurry photo but if it’s intended to be blurry for artistic reasons, the window smudges take away from that quite a bit imo

My interpretation of the comment is that it is more related to the victim than the perpetrator, like shooting elderly people in a nursing home or children or otherwise less privileged people - you’re victimizing someone who doesn’t have the same opportunity to protect or defend themselves or even choose where they reside. This is not to say that they are pitiable or anything like that, but they are disenfranchised.

I had this same thing happen with a friend of mine, he was being manipulated by his partner at the time, 1 slow motion train crash later, he got diagnosed with bipolar, medicated and stabilized. We talk a bit again, it’s nice to see him in a stable place. But if someone refuses to hear what the therapist says and dismisses them or hides information from them they aren’t really going to be able to get proper help.
