I’ve put countless hours into Rainbow 6 Siege, Escape from Tarkov, League of Legends, CoD Warzone, all back when my guy friends were still interested in these games. I loved these games to death, but some of the most vile shit ever said to me were said when I played alone.
When my friends and I moved on to other games, I wanted to play these on my own and just couldn’t. Without them, I had to mute myself or get graphic rape and death threats. I went with it for a while and thought I could tough it out, but I couldn’t. These days I just soloqueue league on a new account without a feminine name.
But yeah, I agree it’s a breath of fresh air to play games without the hate.
Rachelhazideas@lemmy.worldto World News@lemmy.ml•Korean President Yoon sits idly by as Japan tears down memorial to Korean forced laborers2520·1 year agoI think these kinds of comments are harmful to the discourse because there a good deal of nuance missing.
For one, it’s pretty reductive to call them ‘Japanese who’ve done bad things’ when who you’re talking about is dead or on their death beds. That’s not who the monument is for or about.
Historical monuments aren’t for attributing the sins of grandparents to their grandchildren. It’s about humanzing the victims and teaching people of this generation what was allowed to happen in the past. It’s about teaching them the dangers of complacency and the complicit nature of being a bystander.
If it’s worth anything, 4,300 people signed a petition against the removal and many protested in person.
Yes, Japanese people as a whole are severely lacking when it comes to acknowledging the atrocities committed by their country. No, Japanese people today are not personally responsible for them. The better we are at separating acknowledgement from responsibility, the easier time we will have convincing people to remember them.

It could be far better, but one thing China did vastly improve on since the 1950s is bringing women into the workforce and providing them with a far greater degree of autonomy and access to real education than women previously experienced.
This might not sound like much since this has happened to varying degrees in many countries, but it’s understated how socially regressive Chinese views on women historically were (and still are). Not saying things are good now, because China is still rife with gender inequality issues. Just pointing out how disgusting and ingrained Confucian views on womanhood are and how much of a stain it has left on Chinese society.
Rachelhazideas@lemmy.worldto World News@lemmy.ml•Men in Medieval China Had Same Social Mobility As US Baby Boomers: Study19·1 year agoAcademic performance is dictated by access to good educators which has always been dictated by wealth.
The facade of merit has always been used to justify casting away ‘lazy people who don’t study enough’ when the reality is that not everyone can afford private tutors, exotic sports, cram school, travel experience, and every other paid tactic to overstuff kid’s resumes.

Rachelhazideas@lemmy.worldto World News@lemmy.ml•YouTube’s Skibidi Toilet series under investigation by Russian police for "detrimental effect" on children25·1 year agoIs it though? I feel like us millennials aren’t any better for watching shit like Charlie the unicorn, annoying orange, salad fingers, jackass, and other disturbing or brainless content.
Not saying skibidi toilet is a great show for kids, just saying that we weren’t any better and I feel like we are encroaching on boomerism when we gatekeep kids these days for watching almost the same trash we did as kids.

I don’t need excuses or your permission to not kill myself.
Rachelhazideas@lemmy.worldto World News@lemmy.ml•23andMe User Data Stolen in Targeted Attack on Ashkenazi Jews44·2 years agoYou don’t seem to understand what a systemic issue is if you think this is because of a few ‘local physicians’ or just one case of ‘malpractice’. If you think this is something that can be resolved from looking for ‘one competent doctor’, you have no idea how impossible it is to find a team of 1 PCP and 5 specialists who all happen to give a shit, and what to do when you need to go to the ER which is another hellhole of it’s own.
You can come back to this discussion when you show some understanding of how extensive this issue is.
Rachelhazideas@lemmy.worldto World News@lemmy.ml•23andMe User Data Stolen in Targeted Attack on Ashkenazi Jews95·2 years agoinstead of going through, y’know the medical system which has checks and balances for this purpose.
This is the single dumbest take on healthcare I have ever heard. You’ve clearly never had to deal with extensive medical issues or chronic illnesses, or you’re a straight white guy in your 30s and have the privilege of being believed by your doctor.
I’ve been forcefully misdiagnosed with ‘anxiety’ by so many doctors who wouldn’t listen to me. No one gave a shit until I threatened to report them to the medical board. That’s the only time they took my symptoms seriously and bothered to do a blood test, where they were proven wrong. No amount of sorry from them will undo the damage they’ve done.
This was one of 5 incidences where I had to advocate for my own health against the doctor’s preconceptions because theywould rather diagnose me based on my age and gender rather than my symptoms.
Medical gaslighting is a pervasive issue that disproportionately affects women, POC, young people, and LGBTQ. It’s a systemic issue that kills people through medical neglect. I would be dead by now had I not fought this hard for my own diagnoses.
The fact that you think modern health care is some pristine and fully reliable process instead of the shit show it is just speaks of how little you’ve had to deal with. Sit down and check yourself before taking about ignorance.

Your so called ‘obvious reasons’ are anything but obviously to the average lemmy user who will find every excuse to feel superior about their niche privacy loving community with no clue how the real world works.

Must be nice to be privileged with a healthy body and to get to care about privacy concerns instead wondering which genetic condition you’ll die of first.

One model suggested that this change would result in one additional case of HIV transmitted by transfusion every 32.8 years. The AABB has suggested making this change since 1997. The FDA did not accept the proposal and had concerns about the data used to produce the model, citing that additional risk to recipients was not justified. Source
We are well past the 80s and decades behind something that should have. Been corrected a long time ago. The systemic discrimination towards gay men is apparent when you look at EU models of deferment compared to the US.
You’re a kind soul for helping these animals
