Agree we need to get corporate money and interests out of our government (not just the Dems - weird you only mention that side) and we need to pressure candidates to go more and more progressive. But that pressure needs to come from putting the screws on congressional reps. The president can’t do anything unless Congress is in.

Also, who would you suggest as a viable candidate that is more progressive than Harris AND has a real chance of winning the election? Dems are playing it safe as usual and trying to appeal to the mysterious “centre”, most of whom have followed the Overton window rightward. Fixing any of this needs to be done slowly, starting at the local level and building a progressive party from scratch. You’re looking at a minimum of 8-12 years of grueling, thankless work that nobody has so far bothered to do. After that you might have your dream candidate.

I am with you on every one of these points. The image selection process is terrible now, where before it was quick & simple. And in the past couple of updates, sending larger images and gifs was sporadic until now I always get an error. I was happy when they added message reactions, then puzzled when they just stopped at six, half of which are rarely useful.

I’ve been a paid user for years, but now I’m causally shopping for something else. If they’re giving up on their app, so am I.

It’s been around for a while. Over a decade ago Target ran a cheeky back to school advert featuring a slow pan across school cubbies with lunch pails all labelled with variant spellings of “Braiden”. I thought it was hilarious.

I think we’re talking past each other but agreeing on the fundamentals. I’m approaching it from the angle of all government positions - absolutely if a progressive candidate has a chance to win any office from dog catcher to president, get them in so they can influence policy. But if they have no chance of winning, it’s just damage control.

Didn’t win? Dude’s a congressman. He’s in.

Voting for other candidates only shifts the needle if they win. If they can’t possibly win, nothing is accomplished by voting for them.

Rockbox is a bad benchmark due to its insane versatility. Just because modern players “should” support something doesn’t mean the manufacturer put the work in to do so, or even do it well.

That said, when I buy a portable music player the decision is always based on whether or not there’s a Rockbox port for it.

I could have sworn the ending was very similar to the book’s. Nimona has a higher body count in the book to be sure, but that would not fit with the tone of the film so I understand the changes that were made. Also, Stevenson sounded pleased with the adaptation.

I’m a member of a Discord that is the primary source of discussion and information about a piece of hardware, including technical & usage tips, firmware announcements, etc. It’s a terrible way to track this stuff.

That said, the only other forums that have decent communities around it are Reddit, Facebook, and Elektronauts - none of which are even close to as active, but in which many of us will post important info & tips to get the news out. Over 3 years into the project (which is not open source) it would be ridiculous to try shifting the whole community to a new platform. We’re kinda stuck.

Luckily the community as a whole seems to realise this, so we happily answer noob questions over and over and provide links to the appropriate resources, discussions, and pinned posts without snark or judgement. We’ve all been there. It’s the nature of the beast, it’s not efficient, and it’s not the end of the world.

Finally, with the state of search engines in decline due to monetisation, encroachment of AI bloat, and general enshittification, it’s a matter of time before very little real information will be easily searchable. Insular communities who decide to withdraw and do everything their own, better way will likely become the norm. The internet needs a reset anyway.

The frustrating thing was that the police had him on a list. They KNEW the history. But half the time they still rolled up ready for war. It was a banner day when he was woken up at 3 in the morning only by two normal officers knocking on the door to let him know it happened again.

Patrick Tomlinson was swatted over 40 times in 2023 alone. It took WAY too many times before the police would simply knock on his door and ask him if everything was okay. You’d think after the 4th or 5th time they might figure it out.

Joke’s on them, I hate the sound of my name.

My dad drives a base model Kia - no automatic locks, so no keyfob. Kia’s “fix” was to send him “The Club” with instructions to use it to lock the driving wheel every time he parks.

When he told me the story it was structured like a joke, with the punchline being “guess what their solution is?” before pulling The Club from behind his back and handing it to me. He couldn’t stop laughing.

Like many people have said: freezer.

We have a box of quart-sizes freezer zip bags. Whenever you make food, immediately separate half of what you made and freeze it. You can always thaw it later when you don’t have time or energy to prepare food.

Dairy tends not to freeze well. Most other foods do. You can freeze pasta, rice, and bread easily, so make a bunch to mix in to future dishes, and if you can’t get through a full loaf of bread before it spoils, freeze half the loaf as soon as you bring it home.
