FrostyCaveman@lemm.eeto Programmer Humor@programming.dev•TIL that "nginx" is pronounced "engine-x", and not "n-jinx"1·4 months agoWait do you mean “kates” or “Kay-Eights”? I think either makes sense and I wouldn’t raise an eyebrow
If you said it like “Kuhh-Eights” I would probably laugh
FrostyCaveman@lemm.eeto Programmer Humor@programming.dev•TIL that "nginx" is pronounced "engine-x", and not "n-jinx"13·4 months agoI think software name pronunciation discussions are so hilariously absurd that I sometimes purposefully vocalise nginx as “Nuhh Ginks” just to put a hat on it

FrostyCaveman@lemm.eeto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•What's the deal with male loneliness?5·5 months agoI think that’s part of the fun of an “ask people” forum, the answers reveal the common understanding of the definition of the question itself!
For example, In this question the term “male loneliness” is seemingly semantically meaningful. It seems to be a name given to the popular perception or understanding of a certain phenomenon.

FrostyCaveman@lemm.eeto Programmer Humor@programming.dev•10 things that block your Happiness3·6 months agoSeriously? Dammit
The “Python” thing is obviously wrong but this meme also exhibits an example of AI getting things wrong in a subtle, insidious way that you wouldn’t even notice unless you already knew: the Bean won’t actually be registered in the Spring container as the class is missing a @Configuration annotation
Classic

I also previously experienced color grapheme synaesthesia (more specifically just numbers which were coloured) but that went away by the time I was about 12.
FrostyCaveman@lemm.eeto science@lemmy.world•Ticker-tape synaesthesia – when real life comes with subtitles9·8 months agoFor some, it might feel as though their mind is mimicking the physical act of writing the word, a phenomenon known as motor imagery. “Some might notice typing words on a phone or a computer keyboard,” says Price.
I have this, really interesting to know there is a term for it. Actually, “had” is more accurate, as it slowly diminished over the years and has essentially gone away now, probably stopped happening in my mid 20s or so. Sometimes it was handwriting, but usually QWERTY keyboard typing or even T9 dumbphone typing.
Also experienced other mild forms of synaesthesia too, but those are gone now as well. Kinda miss it sometimes. Being a kid was kinda magical.
So no change to how it was before then
