    Kinda… Meh? Mostly boring?

Extremely tech or politics focused, very minimal hobbyist presence, even for mainstream stuff like video games or anime. Horrid for non-mainstream unless if you somehow hit a jackpot, like good fucking luck getting cross-stitch patterns here. Small communities are too small to provide content even if you follow like 15 of them. Bigger ones are atrocious. Jokes and memes are just… Mainstream schlock? Like, why the hell is one of the most prolific joke types just a rehash of Programmer Humor, which is all regurgitated content? Even the porn is on the “hot chick booba awooga” boomer tier.

To put it in a much harsher light: It doesn’t feel like a place that lives on the internet. It feels like a place that wants to live on the internet, but ultimately has no defining identity of its own and doesn’t know where to look to make one.

When HBomberguy made his last video, all reddit and discord communities seemingly knew of it without being directly told. Here, I’m not so sure anyone even knows. I can be talking to someone about animation and 2 replies in I’m made to realize everyone around me consumes maybe a single disney movie every 3 years - how can I have a conversation about the massive paradigm shift that were Hazbin or Digital Circus under those conditions? How can I talk about content wars in the streaming industry and its parallels to books or xbox gamepass? There’s a severe feeling of missing out on the Internet. And I’m sorry, if you don’t know what that is, please, go back to laughing at JS BAD AHAH and getting frisky over OOOH HERMIONE LOOKALIKE NURSE COSTUME.

I gave Lemmy a fair two months but it just progressively wore me out.

That’s weird because I was immediately struck by how everyone seemed to know about it here.

      Maybe we follow different communities.
