I’ve only recently started to educate myself on the complexities and intractable nature of the conflict, but there a huge amount of support that Israel get from the American government.
What are the implications of this ‘counter-narrative’ coming from CNN?
This feels like quite a shift away from the usual pro-Israel stance, but I’m completely outside the US context and am not familiar with where they sit (next to fox and so on)
The US government almost unanimously supports Israel, as does its ruling class.
The majority of working class Americans are unlikely to support sending aid to Israel if they had the option to vote directly on it.
Israel has more influence on American politics than American voters.
Ouch… That’s tragic
It would be a bit more tractable if the US didn’t keep throwing billions of dollars at Israel and Netanyahu in particular.
Depends on CNN’s backers and on which story will sell more.
CNN has been historically pro Israel. Only 2 years ago they accused then prime minister of Pakistan Imran Khan for being anti semetic for not recognizing Israel.
This time they flipped because they can’t hide and deny a ton of civilian casualties, and it’ll be easier for them to report Gaza’s warzone as a humanitarian crisis.
It’s controversial, so it sells.
Edit, stealing another comment I saw: “The mainstream media has departed from the original mission of reporting the news and is now in the business of sculpting public opinion so as to create maximum controversy to generate clicks.”
This is brilliant, well worth keeping!
